Location

Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees, a few miles southwest of the town of Thuir. It is a long steep climb up to the old Benedictine monastery that rests at the foot of a tall sheer cliff.

Fortress

A long abandoned monastery. The inhabitants lead an austere peaceful life, and follow the Benedictine Rule, observing silence in the common areas of the covenant. The Sanctum of a Moonfield Magus is as luxurious as any other in the Order, for they may live like monks, but they have taken no ecclesiastical vows. Each Magus wears a sky-blue robe with a white alb emblazoned with the Magus' sigil. The companions and apprentices wear robes of dark blue, and the covenfolk all wear black robes.

Inhabitants

Tarquinius Sapientus, filius of Ayomardo, House Bonisagus

The Praepostis of Moonfield is a Magus deeply interested in the influence of history upon the world, particularly the influence it has over magic. In his younger days he was a Seeker, but now he is old and bent from years of poring over ancient tomes.

Francesca, filia of Theadore, House Guernicus

The Precentor is a severe woman with grey hair drawn into a bun, and a pinched emotionless face. She has the gift of Enchanting Music, and her vocal range covers 6 octaves. Just after her apprenticeship she spent time in Urania Covenant in the Tribunal of Thebes, where she conceived a son to a powerful Genji Vizir. This child is Andros, who spent many years at Malinbois before leaving for Persia.

Andreas Inconcussitus, filius of Daran, House Tremere

Aemilia and Andreas have been lovers for years. As Ancilla, it is his duty to see to the well-being of the covenfolk and guests. He appears to be a handsome young man with mouse-brown hair and blue eyes. His Tremere upbringing makes him competitive, but his basic nature channels this constructively.

Aemilia, filia of Sardastes, House Flambeau

The Praefectus of Moonfield has made a study of elemental magics, and is a veritable powerhouse of offensive spells. However, this is an academic interest, for at the peaceful covenant of Moonfield she has little need for these spells. This sense of impotence makes her very touchy and likely to over-react. She has been meaning to leave Moonfield for a more active covenant for many years, but cannot bear to leave Andreas.

Innocent, filius of Marius, House Verditius

This portly mage sports a tonsure, and dresses like a Benedictine. He enjoys his food and as Promus it is his duty to supply the food and drink for the covenant, which he does with the assistance of many items he has made, each tailored to his somewhat quirky sense of humour.

Gabriel Medicus, filius of Alaric, House Jerbiton

The Valetudinarian spends a lot of time in nearby villages treating those afflicted by the diseases that are rife in the Val de Seraque. He appears middle-aged with hair greying from black. He is rumoured to have effected permanent cures without the use of vis, but claims to not know how he did this.

Benedict of House Bonisagus

The Sacrist has served in this post for as long as anyone in the covenant can remember - he is the eldest member of the covenant, but deftly sidesteps any inquiry of his past. He is short and slightly chubby, with a round happy face. He is clean shaven, and has a fringe of white hair. His sanctum lies close to the chapel.

Outside Relations

Moonfield and Malinbois have fallen out. When first founded, Moonfield supported Malinbois, particularly letting then use the Library. Then they discovered than Malinbois were responsible for the waves of disease that infect the Val de Seraque, and severed all ties.

Tarquinius took his Gauntlet at Bellaquin, and Moonfield is a member of the Procrustean League. Francesca is a Traditionalist Quaesitor, and so maintains good relations with the powerful covenant of Doissetep.

Mystical Attributes

Innocent's many devices spot the covenant, self-opening doors that announce "Gratias ago!" when used, statues of saints that announce the ecclesiastical hour when asked, crockery that resonds to unspoken commands and floats towards he who desires it, etc. They also own a numer of more powerful items, inluding a Speculum (a scrying mirror, linked to the Specula of Bellaquin, Malinbois, Bentalone and Doissetep), a Relic of St. Martin of Thuir, and The Learned Pine (see Wizard's Grimoire).

Mundane Resources

Moonfield is on good relationships with the town of Thuir, who supplies them with all their raw materials. The common people of Thuir are under the impression that Moonfield is a monastery, and although the clergy know different, they do nothing to dispel that image.

Obligations

Moonfield owes a small tithe of vis to Bellaquin, and its members are obliged to spend one season in eight working with the common folk of the area.
