Braeble was an ageing veteran soldier who used to be the Turb Captain. He held the position of Sergeant for over thirty years and was fiercely dedicated to the Covenant. He was promoted to Captain, after the unfortunate demise of Napoleon, inheriting the Sword of Malinbois. Braeble was really getting a little too old to be going out on expedition towards his latter days, but his superior swordsmanship meant he was able to keep up with some of the younger grogs; he was the best swordsman after Napoleon had gone. The countless scars over his body were testament to his vast combat experience, and to the fact that he had escaped death by the skin of his teeth more often than he would care to remember.

For a couple of years before his death, Braeble had been feeling the effects of a Faerie curse which was rapidly making him younger. While trying to rectify the problem, his last act was to close the Box of the Everglades in a Faerie regio - this turned out to be a fatal error.

Appearance

He appears quite intimidating, although not as much as he did in his youth. He is broad and hairy, he has a scarred face with a large nose. His eyes are brown and his short-cut hair is now grey. After his marriage to Kara, he shaved off his beard at her request. He is in good shape for his age, but his body is covered with numerous scars. However his most striking features are his extra right forearm and his extra eye!

Origins

He and his brother Narryn were mercenaries from an early age after their family had been made homeless. However they grew tired of the poor pay and and constant travel, and so they settled down at Malinbois just after it was founded. Being the most experienced warrior of the Turb, Braeble was appointed the Sergeant.

David's Sword

Braeble now wields the Sword of Malinbois, so this item has been given to Sir Severin Parnaut, a new member of the Turb.

David's Shield

Braeble now carries a shield given to him by Aries in Greece. Its effects are unknown. He never used the invisibility effect in David's Shield anyway - so he has given it to Six, who can make better use of it.

David's Breastplate

Braeble was happily married to Kara, one of the healers in the Turb who has since retired (and then tragically died). They had a daughter, Rose, who has since vanished into the Faerie forest. One of the other women in the Turb, a warrior called Palestina, also had a crush on him, but Braeble never really noticed and she has since passed away.

Braeble's younger brother Narryn was forced to retire after he had both of his hands amputated as a punishment for spying. He was ever the more reckless of the two, and has since drunk himself to death.

On an expedition to De Panne in Flanders a while back, Serina attempted to cast The Seven League Stride to escape combat with the dragon Pan Corderax, but botched and translocated herself into Braeble! The result was that they were joined, back to back, with separate heads, forearms and forelegs in a horrific abomination. Upon returning home, Serina transferred her mind into her spare body, leaving Fionn and Marcus to attempt a season's worth of lab experimentation (using the Covenant's Vis) to try and extract Braeble from the former Serina. This seemed to work, with the side effect that Braeble still has Serina's left forearm attached to his right elbow. This means that he can wield two swords in battle as well as a shield!

For a while there was a little bit of dissent in the Turb since some of the milites seemed to favour the leadership of Sir Severin, a new arrival. Although not as experienced as Braeble, this outlawed knight seemed to be rather more inspirational. He will maybe take over the Captaincy when Braeble retires. However Severin currently has leadership problems, and the loyalty of the Turb has swung back towards Braeble.

Braeble acquired an extra eye when he was commanded to eat a magical eye in order to track a renegade magus. This has remained ever since. What with this, and his extra forearm, he is best kept away from mundanes!

Since the trip to the renewed Faerie forest near La Rochelle to return the Box of the Everglades, Braeble has been experiencing a remarkable return to youth! Nafesi is experiencing the same phenomenon. He seems to be recovering about 8 years every year (if that makes sense) - he feels much fitter and healthier. His wrinkles and grey hair have gone, and many of his scars have disappeared. He now only seems just over half as old as he should be. But he is still getting younger - where will it end?
