Oeric was the Leader of the Covenant dog handlers, and had been promoted to Decurio after Napoleon's demise. He was one of the original members of the Covenant. He had just returned from a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, with Marcus, to take up his new post.

Appearance

An old man of average build and height, he tends to start at sudden noises, although not as much as when he was young. He does not relax often, unless handling the dogs, or other animals, then he is calm and steady handed. He tends to tire easily but does not complain. Although he used to shy away from danger, he now sticks close by his friends and wards.

When he smiles it can be seen that he has enlarged canines, conferring a powerful bite. This is due to the effects of a magical aura, inside which he took on several traits of the animals he loves. This also accounts for his unswerving loyalty to the Covenant, and explains why he once charged straight at the Great Wyrm, Pan Corderax, with his sword, and emerged unharmed!

Origins

Oeric was recruited from a village in Provence, near Mistridge, and is an original member of the Turb.

Personality Traits

Over the years Oeric has overcome his fears, and is still as reliable in a fight. He has a great deal of patience and this, combined with his kind, pious nature has meant that he is well liked. The unswerving loyalty that he holds to the Covenant and every member, regardless of their manner has resulted in his recent promotion to Turb Sergeant, following Braeble's.

Ever since the Friar cured Oeric's blindness over thirty years ago, with a miracle, Oeric has been a devout and pious person. He defied the courtiers of Queen Fitheach when he participated in a `Rade', after refusing to harm innocents.

Due to his hardy convalescence he has survived mortal wounds (Below Incapacitated) at least three times, once he travelled back from south of the Ring of Fire on temporary healing magic only.

He won the Holy Sword in a horse race around a town in the Novgorod Tribunal, commemorating a Saint's day.

When Marcus decided to go on a pilgrimage to Rome and then to the Holy Land, Oeric took up the offer of company, and journeyed as his bodyguard. Since his return, he has seemed a lot more at peace.

Argus

Oeric's true and loyal companion, Argus, is a wolfhound descended from the original dog Oeric had. This Argus is different though, he is a Faerie dog now, with a soft green shine to his fur in darkness, and green eyes. When Oeric gained his teeth he also lost Argus in the Faerie forest, scared off. Argus returned a year later outside Malinbois, changed to a Fay creature.
