Imanitos joined Malinbois in the Summer of 1222, nineteen years ago. His reputation in the covenant was rather unsavoury for a time, but he has now been appointed as the disceptator. His suave and sophisticated manner gave him the edge over the less well-qualified candidates. Upon his promotion, one of his first moves was to increase his power base, by introducing the new rank of magus princeps. A follower of Jerbiton, he maintains a strong interest in Mundanes (especially those of a young and female variety!), and specialises mainly in Mentem magics.

Unbeknownst to the other Magi (although some have their suspicions about him), Imanitos is also a DARK MAGUS! See also:

Basic Stats

Name: Imanitos Mendax
House: Jerbiton
Parens: Vorien Tectus, filius Petrus Tigurinus
Gender: Male
Current Year: 1241 AD
Age: 45
Apparent Age: 35
Year Born: 1196 AD
Decrepitude: 0
Size: 0
Confidence: 3
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 170lbs

Appearance

He is tall and quite lean. His medium-length hair is thick and black, his eyes are blue, and he is classically handsome. He typically dresses smartly in expensive dark blue or black doublet and hose, and sometimes wears a black cloak with red and gold trim.

For a year or so before the Tribunal he had disappeared, but when he was sighted again, he had a full beard and long hair, giving him a rather rogueish countenance. He mentioned something about the need for a "disguise". However, he has recently shaved off his beard and reverted to his old appearance (the beard didn't really suit him). His wardrobe seems to have been upgraded recently, with many expensive new garments. He has also taken to wearing a golden ring with a large sapphire. No-one is quite sure where he has been getting the money to buy these items...

Origins

Apprenticed at the isolated Covenant of Holzenberg in the Rhine Tribunal, but moved to Malinbois shortly after passing his Gauntlet. His parens, Vorien Tectus, has since moved to the Covenant of Doissetep (in 1225 AD), where he holds the rank of Pontifex.

Characteristics

Personality Traits

Despite his cultured exterior, those that have come to know Imanitos have observed that his personality is not actually that pleasant. He is selfish, and seems to have no morals whatsoever - he won't think twice about cold-blooded murder. His most overriding personality trait seems to be his lust, since his favourite pastime is seducing women and whoring.

Reputations

Virtues and Flaws

Fellow Magi of Malinbois have noted that Imanitos usually casts his spells without any words or gestures, and seems to suffer no penalties from so doing. Mundanes do not seem disturbed by his presence, and his seductive abilities seem to be remarkably successful. However he always seems to interfere in matters that don't concern him, and he lies just for the sake of it, taking an obscure delight in spreading corruption far and wide. The Magi do not know of his other Virtues and Flaws.

Abilities

Can speak Latin, German and Provencale fluently. He is charming and is a consumate liar. After his recent visit to the covenant of Doissetep - he learnt to find his way around there - he knows slightly more about the Order and its history. He knows the area around Malinbois and has also picked up a cursory skill in riding, swimming, sneaking and public speaking. He also has some small ability with the daggers which are usually secreted on his person.

Magical Stats

Twilight Points: 3
Longevity Potion: -7* (see below)
Casting Speed: +2

Abilities

Wizard's Sigil

Whenever Imanitos casts a spell he becomes mildly aroused and has an erection. This stems from the latter years of his apprenticeship when he used to practice his Rego Mentem magicks by attempting to seduce young girls. He would be aroused at the time of casting, but now the habit has stuck and so the sigil is automatic whenever he does magic. No-one else realises this quirk.

Longevity Potion

Created in Autumn 1231 using 15 pawns of Vim Vis (transmuted from aesfoetida using his spell). With the assistance of Mandator's Obedient Apprentice, the Lab Total reached was +40. It is a variant of the standard Hermetic potion which provides added protection against apparent ageing (no apparent ageing unless the potion fails). Ageing roll modifier: -7

The potion itself is in the form of a large and rather gruesome black meal. The ingredients collected were mostly foul (spiders legs, bats wings, etc.), and were mixed in with the Vis (still a black paste) to create the unpalatable mixture. Imanitos eventually forced the "meal" down, and if/when the meal re-emerges, then he will know the potion has failed! The ingredients used are symbolic of Imanitos' corrupt nature and his desire to preserve the illusion of well-seeming. Apparent age is 35.

Arts

Specialises in Rego Mentem, also competent in Intellego, Perdo, Corpus, Imaginem and Vim. Muto is his weakest Technique, and he scorns knowledge of the "baser" Forms. Rather strangely however, he has recently been studying Muto, Animal and Terram.

Spells

Only some of these spells are known about by the other Magi: See also the list of Infernal Spells below.

The Mask of Deceit

This item is Imanitos' Talisman, opened for enchantment in Winter 1236 at the cost of twelve pawns of vis. It is a delicate (but rather unpleasant looking) tin mask, with iron reinforcement on the left-hand side. A medium-sized diamond is embedded in the forehead, a small sapphire is set in the right cheek, and a small ruby is set in a glass eyepiece over the left eye. An integral part of the item is the snake's tongue, which is affixed to the mouth part of the mask with an iron pin. It was attuned as his Talisman in Summer 1237, and it has space left for 60 levels of effects.

Notes

Since his arrival at the Covenant, he has been on a few expeditions (spending all the party funds on whoring on the way!), but he has spent most of his time studying from the library. He is rather vague about his exact research interests. In the spring of 1226, after observing that Lunantha was seeking a magical person to father her next child, he fought her in Certamen for the right to bed her. Lunantha deliberately lost the fight, so they spent a couple of weeks sleeping together. Since then, they have gotten on rather badly. However, Imanitos did father her third child, a non-gifted girl.

Due to the disastrous collapse of the top three floors of the two towers (quite a few years ago), Imanitos was without a laboratory (to his extreme annoyance), and was living and studying in temporary quarters in the caves. He was involved in an ongoing project to lure the luscious Eloise into his bed, but sadly this plan seems to have been permantly scuppered by her transmutation into the new Faerie Queen at the Glade of Hazels. He has moved into her old laboratory.

In Spring 1230, Imanitos was appointed as the new Ambassador to the Fay. This was largely due to his fairly good relations with Prince Kieron of the Sidhe (an Unseelie Lord whom Imanitos goes hunting with on occasion - the prey are innocent peasants!). However this responsibility quickly began to interfere with his research and so he resigned the post soon after. Upon his return, Fionn (a more suitable candidate) became the Ambassador.

A few years ago, Imanitos seemed to acquire a rather bad reputation with the Council. On an expedition, he and Salamandrus neglected to declare the Vim Vis which they had found and kept it for themselves. However, Job brought the matter up at a Council Meeting, and Imanitos was questioned by Madeleine. The scam was revealed and it became apparent that Imanitos had deliberately lied to the Council. He and Salamandrus were punished by being given Covenant work to do without receiving payment for it. Until he had done this (he had to make a magical trap-door for a new vault in the caverns), he was not a Magus in "Good Standing". Also, Imanitos arranged the death of a priest on the expedition immediately after, contrary to the wishes of the other Magi. However he was technically the leader of the party at the time.

Imanitos has recently finished brewing up his longevity potion, after having spent several seasons studying Intellego and Corpus in preparation. He spent a while inventing spells shortly thereafter.

After returning from a recent trip in the Summer of 1233 looking uncharacteristically dishevelled and extremely annoyed, he departed again, taking a horse with him. He was not seen again until the Tribunal of 1235, where he looked distinctly more hirsute.

In contrast to 1233, 1236 has so far been a good year for Imanitos. Not only has he been promoted from a lowly socius conciliorum to the rank of magus princeps and disceptator, but he also seems to have chanced upon a source of wealth. However, he is still the same old Imanitos - on a recent trip he didn't seem to be at all bothered about agreeing to desecrate a cathedral by way of service to King Calum. In fact he quite enjoyed copulating with the Captain on the altar...

Contrary to popular belief, Imanitos and Salamandrus are most definitely not embezzling vis from the covenant! However Imanitos does seem to have rather a large quantity of vis at the moment... He seems to have paid off all his debts (his debt to the Quaesitores was all paid off in Herbam, which pleased him immensely) and still has plenty left over for some kind of item he is making (maybe Francois knows more about this...)

OK, I admit it, so that was a lie about not embezzling vis! In the few years since they were given their new positions, Imanitos and Salamandrus have been creaming off Rego and Vim vis for themselves, about 2 or 3 Rooks worth to date. This was achieved by Salamandrus each year deliberately casting a lower level Aegis of the Hearth than was declared before Council, and by deliberately mis-weighing the pearls of Vim vis harvested from Home. Imanitos also sold off some of his stolen gemstones at Verdi, in exchange for about a Rook and a half of vis (Rego, Mentem and Vim).

Imanitos was very nearly killed in 1239 when fighting "War". War didn't like the fact that Imanitos was firing the Merrow Toaster at him (not to mention the rest of the party) and so stuck a huge great sword in his guts. Fortunately for him, the wound closed up when War died, and he made a miraculous recovery.

During the final encounter with the Devourer at the Place of Battle, Imanitos merely sat down on the nearby hillside to watch. After observing that Harkerr the Devourer himself was taken out by Salamandrus' awesome vis-boosted spell, Imanitos declined the offer of Annabelle to join their side against the covenant.
