Mordaleus is slightly eccentric and his first impression doesn't tend to be a good one. He has been in his lab for thirteen years now and has managed to master a few of the skills needed for his alchemical creations.
Only thirty years to go to create the Philosopher's Stone.

Appearance
The first thing to hit you is the smell. Rotten eggs and worse. You're not sure if it is body odour or the result of one of his concoctions gone wrong. He also seems to be missing an ear which his long straggly black hair fails to hide adequately. His robes are in quite a state, burn marks and stains cover them. Sometimes he is seen in a heavy black apron that has also seen better days. A few strange talismans can be seen sticking out from under his clothing.
Origins
After doing a lot of work in a small village north west of Perpignan he decided to come to Malinbois which was sure to have better resources. It seemed that Malinbois were quite desperate for an alchemist at the time. They needed someone to create an elixir of life. Using that as a bargaining chip he managed to get a place on council where he has been able to meddle to his heart's content.

Notes
Marcus keeps wondering where all the money has been going. Requests for gem stones, platinum, gold and more exotic materials keep issuing forth. Questions as to when will the elixir will be ready are always replied with Soon, very soon but I need some more money first.
Of course there have been a few mishaps along the way. Whilst creating a simple device to look at things in minute detail he accidentally knocked a jar of sulphur into the brewing pot. This wouldn't have been so bad in itself even though the pot was very dirty and was full of saltpeter and chalk from a previous concoction. Since that had spoiled the mixture he threw it away, in the furnace. The explosion rocked the towers and was even heard in Belabre. Walking out from the crater, which was almost 200 paces across, was Mordaleus coughing and spluttering. He was lightly crisped but otherwise unharmed. His old forge has never been found.
After rebuilding there was only one other slight accident. Just an explosion 80 paces across, nothing to worry about. It is quite easy to tell when Mordaleus is working at the forge now. As it gets hotter it screams in a higher and higher pitch that can be heard all round the covenant. The peace and quiet of Malinbois will never be the same again.
