Magic Items

(Last update: 2/11/96)

Back to the Covenant Stores

Back to the Home Page

Over the years Malinbois has accumulated quite a large collection of magic items. Most were acquired on expedition, but some were purchased or traded, and others were made by members of the Covenant. There are only a few that are regularly taken on expedition, such as the Wand of Absymal Flame and the potions (along with The Grimoire of Efficacious Wayfaring , course). Looking after all the items is the responsibility of the admonitor, Saeed. Some of the items are stored in his Sanctum, others are housed in a vault in the caves, protected by a magical trap-door (now disenchanted). Access is restricted to senior magi only. Many of these objects have gradually been `mysteriously disenchanted' which we later realised was due to the malign presence of the Devourer sapping the magic from Santare Hill.

Enchanted Items

The Bell of Ibyn

This fabled item is the prized possesion of Malinbois. After exploration of the ruins of the old Covenant of Calebais, it was discovered and later brought back to Santare Hill. It is suspended from the roof of the central cave, above the Certamen Circle and temporary (old) Council Chamber.

The powers of the Bell manifest through wearers of the accompanying magical Diadems. Wearers of the Diadems must be "attuned" to the Bell in an elaborate Ritual that requires 2 rooks of Vis. The Bell is covered with a series of knobs engraved with runes, each pertaining to a particular Personality Trait. Each wearer is attuned to a particular Trait by filing the relevant knob until the Bell (struck with a mallet by the officiating Magus) rings true. Magi do not wear Diadems, since it is reputed that wearing one will send a Gifted person insane at the time of attunement. The current wearers of the Diadems (and their corresponding Personality Traits) are:

Wearers of the Diadems have access to the following powers: Also, the Bell tolls if a human dies within 1 mile (between 1 to 6 times, depending upon the importance of the person). It tolls 12 times upon the death of a wearer. It also gives a huge deep toll if any magical creature or artifact comes within 5 miles (if not present at the last Ritual). When fully functional, the Bell adds +6 to Watch, and +2 to Ward.

Books from King Valdine's Tomb

A set of objects were liberated from a tomb hidden underground in a Faerie Forest in the area of La Rochelle, in northern France. They are: a wand, a pouch, a chalice and a set of enormous ancient tomes written in a strange script. Only the books and the wand have been investigated so far. The ten huge tomes are each about 5' by 4'. They are a set of ancient prophecies going way into the future - when the language is mastered they empower the reader with Visions as a special skill. The other items are detailed below.

David's Breastplate

Part of a set of three items liberated from Calebais some decades ago. The Invested powers are Chirurgeon's Healing Touch (once per day, when the bearer is Incapacitated), Alleviate the Serpent's Bite (once per day) and Calm the Motion of the Heart (3 times per day, when afraid). The breastplate has a Magic Resistance of +20 (against spells to affect the breatplate only) and is normally worn by the Grog Captain, although it has recently been badly damaged.

David's Shield

The second item in the set. This shield has the power of Invisibilty of the Standing Warrior (3 times per day) and has grants the bearer a Magic Resistance of +15 (3 times per day only). It used to be carried by Braeble also, until he was given a better protective item. It used to be carried by Six, until she passed away.

Eloise's Boulder

This used to be the property of one Vorn, follower of Bjornaer of the Novgorod Tribunal. However he was Marched, and Eloise, Imanitos and Id hunted him down. Of the booty that was claimed from his lab, Eloise kept this item - a large magical boulder. When Eloise moved to the Glade of Hazels and became the new Queen, it was placed in the stores. It has been investigated and it was determined that the item can uncurl to become an animated stone statue (once per day). The statue can be given simple instructions to guard an area, and will attack anyone not otherwise specified in the command.

The Furtive Servant of Hades

Another of Marlowe's creations, this is a small black figurine which can animate and act as an assassin. A deal was negiotated with the Covenant of Val-Negra to purchase it - this involved trading a Wand of Fire and paying a tithe of Vis - although it had to be claimed from one Abaddon at Doissetep (an ex-member of Val-Negra). It has not been fully investigated (although Marlowe probably knows all the details).

The Glass of the Void

This is a large ornate hourglass, about a foot tall, made of a dark wood. On the top and underneath it bears the sigil of its creator, Crantatus of Criamon. It has silver trim, and the black sand in it is ever-flowing, although the amount of sand in each half is constant. The magi believe the item to have been stolen from the Covenant of Saxum Ruberis in Italy, although they were not sure, since there may be another identical item. Crantatus' diaries have recently been decyphered, revealing more information about the item. Apparently, there were indeed two Glasses of the Void made by Crantatus - the first was a failed experiment that nearly sent him into Final Twilight. It also had the side effect of temporal warping in the vicinity of the device. His second effort actually succeeded, and that item comprises a powerful device to control Twilight (or so Crantatus claims). This is a 60th level Rego Vim effect, with an Intellego requisite. Crantatus claims in his writings to have used this on a number of "trips", allowing him to bring back Wisdom from the Void, without experiencing any of the bad effects. The powers of the Glass are mirrored in the strange activity of the black sand, a lesser Rego Terram effect which is keyed to the main power. The Glass also helps one to learn from Crantatus' incomprehensible Vim text, The Temporal Enigma. The Glass is activated by rotating and saying Crantatus' riddle (the answer to which is Time). The magi are rather wary of the item, since it was left behind by a demon, and it currently resides underneath the altar in the chapel, along with the other dubious items. (When it was taken to the altar, the black sand stopped flowing.) However, the holy friar could sense no Infernal taint on the object. They are also not sure whether they have the "good" or the "bad" version of the item!

Mandator's Obedient Apprentice

This automated stone statue is Mandator's finest piece. It is useful both as a scribe and a lab assistant. Among the abilities it has the capacity to learn is Mandator's brainchild, Aura Theory. Sadly Mandator departed before he could pass on any of his knowledge to the item.

It was invested with a massive 29 pawns of Intellego Vis to enable it to learn the following abilities:

It is invested with a single effect to facilitate proper movement:

The Oriflamme

This is one of the most powerful items in the Covenant. It is an ancient and worn flag and is non-Hermetic in origin. When used as a war banner it has several powerful Effects to aid the army that wields it. The first time it was used, however, disaster resulted: when attacking a Crusading army, the force led by Malinbois using the item experienced a sudden fear, and fled in panic. It was later determined that this was the result of a blessing on the object which meant that it reversed its effects to accord with Divine Intent (as embodied by the Crusaders). It has not been used since, but it is postulated that it will need some kind of alternate blessing before it can be again used against a Crusading army.

The Effects (or Hermetic equivalents) are:

The Oven of Freyja

This strange item was recently investigated by Serina. It is invested with a powerful non-Hermetic effect (equivalent to a 50th level Creo X). The Oven is hot to the touch, and if one knows the name of an item in Old Norse, the Oven can "cook" (ie. create) it. The created item cannot be more than 2' square, and it cannot be magical. The Oven needs Ignem vis to power it.

The Sea Wife

A magnificently crafted magical Faerie vessel that used to belong to the Court of King Calum, given by way of a favour. It can travel faster than a normal ship, especially when piloted by the "husband" (currently Saeed). It can travel calmly through storms, can turn on a sixpence, and has the power to becalm other ships. It can travel at a maximum speed of 72 miles per day, under favourable conditions. With the husband piloting, this speed increases to 90 miles per day and the maneouverability is enhanced, irrespective of conditions.

Shell of Summoning

A horn-shaped shell, three foot long. The shell has a small hole at one end and winds up to a much larger hole at the other. If blown it emits a deep tone. Aid from the sea will eventually arrive and help the wielder. It is unsure how many times this will work.

Six's Dagger

A magical dagger that used to be owned by Six. It seems to aid the wielder greatly with parrying. Since Six's death, it has been kept in the stores.

(New) Sword of Malinbois

After the previous Sword of Malinbois was lost, Francois was asked to make a new one as covenant work. It is similar (in appearance) to the weapon made by Callidus, but differs slightly in its effects. It was completed in Autumn 1238, and is empowered with 3 Rego Terram effects to enhance the 1st (+8), Atk (+8, but limited by Dex) and Dam (+16). It was given to Victor in a little ceremony to promote him to Captain.

Urn from Salleau

A huge and ancient urn. "Tharine" must be spoken before opening it, otherwise a Ball of Abysmal Flame is set off.

The Vinculum of the Wizards Council

This magnificent item is probably Marlowe's finest piece. It is a huge gold chain which facilitates powerful group Rituals. It is 9' long, and each golden chain link is studded with a ruby. It was traded with the Covenant of Verdi for a fine set of three matching magical swords which we had collected. If the plan to turn Marlowe into a lich ever goes ahead, this object will have to be destroyed, along with his other items. It has the following powers:

The Wand of Abysmal Flame (a.k.a. "The Merrow Toaster")

This item was made as Covenant work by Pyran, a foolish Magus of House Flambeau who has since left. It is enchanted with Ball of Abysmal Flame, which can be activated 24 times per day with a Penetration of +58. The unfortunate nickname for this item came from the time when Mandator roasted a couple of luckless sea faeries, but that's another story...

Lesser Enchanted Items

Certamen Cauldron

This item was presented as a gift from the Covenant of Dankmar when they visited for an Interim Tribunal many years ago. It is a large cauldron which enables the user to practice their skill at certamen. It was a deliberate insult on the behalf of Dankmar to present this item - not long before one of their witches had soundly defeated Mandator in such a contest!

The Council Table

When the new tower was constructed, the Council approved the construction of a magical table for the new Council Chamber. Saeed crafted this crescent-shaped table, along with its set of matching chairs. It is imbued with a Rego Terram effect to enable the chairs to move when called.

Dying Vat

A large dying vat made by Fionn as covenant work in Spring 1237. It is enchanted with a 30th level Muto Animal effect which changes the colour of the dye inserted to a more expensive blue. It is not located at the covenant, but at the warehouse of Mme Bertise, a business partner in Pinoret, where it is used to dye wool (and thereby add to the covenant's income).

Poleaxe and Spear of Malinbois

These two items were made in Winter 1240 by Francois as covenant work. They are both enchanted with a minor Rego Terram effect to increase the damage inflicted by the weapon. They were intended to be used by the two sergeants, Davis and Tomas.

(New) Seal of Malinbois

A replacement protective amulet for the Turb captain, crafted by Saeed as covenant work in Summer 1240. It is an oval-shaped golden amulet, covered with Arabic symbols. On the reverse it bears the symbols of Malinbois and the House of Verditius, as well as Saeed's sigil. The Seal grants a Magic Resistance of +23 to all nearby, provided that they were present at the time of activation. This effect can be performed 6 times per day.

The Sword of the Beogarts

One of Marlowe's lesser creations. It is enchanted with the following Effects:

Vis Detection Glove

A black leather glove made as covenant work by Salamandrus in Spring 1237. It is imbued with Sense the Nature of Vis, and has unlimited usage. The shape of the glove changes to match the appropriate hand signal for the Form of vis found.

Wand of Demon's Eternal Oblivion

A jasper-tipped wand crafted as covenant work by Salamandrus in Winter 1240. 24 times per day, a 37th level Demon's Eternal Oblivion can be fired off, with a Penetration of +37.

Miscellaneous Items

This category includes objects which are magical in nature, but are not actually Enchanted Items per se: potions, arcane connections, Infernal items and so on.

Arcane Connections

The Covenant maintains Arcane Connections to all present members. There is also an Arcane Connection to one of the Specula at Doissetep.

Father Tanchus' Items

These were acquired after a bloody battle in an Infernal Regio in the Forest of Shadrishel. During the combat with the corrupt priest and his Infernal minions, he became buried and so magically transported himself to safety, leaving his clothes and possesions behind. His cloak has since been destroyed, but there still remains a magical gemstone (suspected by the Magi to be a Courtstone) and a large black diamond. Father Dietrich attempted to destroy them, to no avail, so he is keeping a close eye on them in the chapel instead.

Mordaleus' Inventions

Our erstwhile alchemist, Mordaleus, has been working constantly in his lab since his arrival. He has created several useful items for the Covenant so far:

Concoctions

Devices

Oeric's Sword

This is a holy sword acquired by Oeric from the town of Neisse in Eastern Europe on an expedition to the Novgorod Tribunal about fifteen years ago. When it is blessed (the friar usually manages a pretty good blessing!) it does greatly increased damage against Infernal beings (and to a lesser extent Fay and Magical creatures) - but for one hit only. It is certainly not magical, but it is not known whether the enhanced damage is due to some Divine property of the sword or whether it is merely a product of the blessing.

Simon's Poisons

After his death, the items of the sneak Simon were placed in the stores. They are a collection of dangerous poisions (and antidotes), but they are not believed to be magical. Only a few remain intact.

Items Yet To Be Investigated

A few items have not yet been studied, so that their powers are (largely) unknown.

Axe

This is an extremely heavy two-handed battleaxe, formerly belonging to the guildmaster of the Forester's guild in Canet-Plage. When held correctly, the weapon seems to have no weight. The item seems to be imbued with some kind of effect to destroy metal armour that it hits.

Barrel of Moonshine

This item was taken by Callidus on an expedition to a small island in the Great Sea. The island seemed to be the remains of a small Covenant and the abode of an ancient half-Faery Magus. Callidus stole it (along with a load of Vis). It's a barrel full of a shiny, silvery liquid. Although not Vis, it is definitely magical. It remains to be investigated.

Chalice from King Valdine's Tomb

The one item from the tomb (see above) yet to be investigated. It is a small golden chalice encrusted with red gems around the outside. It seems to fill up with wine at sunrise and sunset. The effect of the wine is unknown.

Ex-Items

Items that for whatever reason have been lost, traded or disenchanted.

Assumpta's Potions

A single batch of 3 potions made by Assumpta as probationary work. They are enchanted with Path of the Ashen Body (otherwise known as Rise of the Feathery Body).

Destroyed when some kind of wind elemental was released in the stores in Winter 1236.

Bronze Medallion

This item is a small bronze-coloured metal disc, with a small hole where a broken cord is attached. It bears a mysterious symbol on one side. It was found in the deserted camp of a group of gypsies just outside Elne. It is non-hermetic in origin. The wearer of the medallion will always be recognised by gypsies as a friend, although it is cursed so that it will never remain on a non-gypsy for any length of time.

Rather stupidly, it was taken out on an expedition to the Alps at the start of 1238, and not surpisingly, it was lost somewhere on the way.

Cloak of Souls

Another item acquired after the battle with Father Tanchus and his minions in the Forest of Shadrishel. The cloak is a very disturbing sight; it seems to be composed of the agonised faces of the Magi of the former Spring Covenant of Lariander. It is currently being kept by the friar, who is blessing it periodically in an attempt to relieve the suffering of the souls trapped therein. Until something else can be done, that is.

Seemingly disenchanted after Jean-Pierre's death and was burnt by Father Dietrich.

Cloaks of Invisibility

Quantity: 7. A set of cloaks, black as night, made by Malevola Serini as Covenant work in Autumn 1230. They can only be used once before their enchantment fails, but they render the wearer completely invisible until they are taken off (or until the next new moon).

Discovered to have lost their enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Cloaks of the Wizard Disguised

Quantity: 2. These useful items were made by Lunantha as work for the Covenant. They are invested with Passivity of the Spell Casting Wizard (Muto Imaginem 25) as a constant Effect.

Discovered to have lost their enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Conch Shell of Plenty

This item looks like an ordinary conch shell. You can even hear the sea if you put your ear to it. It is about a foot and a half across. Upon commanding the shell to "Bring forth a bountious banquet", it produces enough food for one person. This effect may be used three times per day.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Winter 1236. Reason unknown.

Crown from Prince Lyzian

A Faerie item given to a party from Malinbois in return for saving the underwater palace of a Seelie Prince. It is a delicately carved crown of coral. Dolphins of immaculate detail swim through a stormy ocean. If placed on the head it allows the wearer to communicate with all sea creatures.

Destroyed in the earthquake of Spring 1241.

David's Sword

The final item in the set of 3 combat relics from Calebais. This sword can produce small flames at the tip (Creo Ignem 5) when the bearer concentrates, and has enhanced stats.

Lost when Severin was killed in Canet-Plage in Autumn 1234.

Demon's Heart Quarters

Quantity: 2. Two segments of the caligo heart of the "Devourer". They are kept separately. Mandator managed to decipher the first quarter of the true name: "Eloch".

Disappeared sometime during 1237/1238 - probably stolen by the Devourer's minions.

Enchanted Armour

Three sets of Plate Cuirass armour that is magically light (half weight). They were made by Tribius, filius of Rhegor.

Discovered to have lost their enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Items from the Druid's Barrow

These minor items were found in a nearby barrow soon after the Covenant was founded. They are a chalice, a knife, a stone and a wand. The chalice is enchanted with Subtle Taste of Poison and Purity and has the power to change the properties of liquids (Muto Aquam 10). The knife has now become Odette's talisman. The stone is invested with Tracks of the Faerie Glow, and the wand is enchanted with Flash of the Scarlet Flames which can be activated thrice daily. All of the items have a Waiting Spell in them, allowing a Spell of upto fifth magnitude to be stored.

Discovered to have lost their enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

The Epistolis Stone

This item was made by the ancient Mercurian Magus Marlowe, filius of Apromar, follower of Flambeau. It is instilled with Effects to record (Rego Imaginem 35) and play back (Creo Imaginem 25) audio and visual images. About 24 hours worth of images can be stored in this handy object.

Lost its enchantment in Winter 1236 (reason unknown) and was then smashed when the wind elemental was released. The fragments are being stored with care.

Fellbane

This longsword was obtained by one of the grogs, Charles, on an expedition to the coastal village of Salleau, when a Giant was raised from its slumber. It is a magical weapon, with enhanced powers against monsters, especially Giants. The power is activated by swinging around the head three times before striking (this gives a penalty to 1st Strike).

Taken from Victor when he was captured by the Devourer's mortal servants.

Galian's Glass

This eyeglass with a gold band is a Lesser Enchanted item made by Galian Sicarius as Covenant work in Summer 1231. It is invested with a 15th level Intellego Vim effect (which can be activated 12 times per day) to enable the wearer to perceive Regio boundaries.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Hearth-Stones

Quantity: 6. A set of lesser enchanted devices made by Galian Sicarius as part of his probationary work for the Covenant in Winter 1230. The stones are installed in some of the laboratories, and provide warmth and light upon command. One is placed in the Council Chamber.

Discovered to have lost their enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Kite Shield

A shield imbued with +15 Magic Resistance.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Knives from Val-Negra

A case of knives was recently obtained whilst exploring the mysterious series of caves in the Covenant of Val-Negra. A light pinkish globe was also found, but after a season of wasted lab investigation, it was determined to be non-magical. The knives still await research.

Discovered to have lost their enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Lance of Holy Fury

Also called the Lance of the Son's Revenge. It was crafted by Peregrine Demonsbane, and took him 4 years to make. It is a lance of virgin Iron (created de novo using magic), 3 ells long (11'3"). It has a blade along most of its edge of purest diamond. The shaft is inlaid with jasper and coral, spelling out letters of the Prayer of Exorcism. It is devilishly sharp. The result is a large and deadly weapon enchanted with various Effects to facilitate the destruction of Demons - undoubtedly the finest piece Peregrine produced before his untimely death. The lance will automatically fly from the wielder's hand towards the designated target, doing hideous amounts of damage (with a high-level Demon's Eternal Oblivion) before returning. It was until recently located in the Council Chamber, forming the centrepiece of the Council Table.

It has only been used on a couple of occasions, the first time was when Mandator threw it at a puny messenger Imp outside the walls of the Covenant. This was totally unnecessary since the laughable creature posed no threat - it could not even get past our Aegis. This was much to the annoyance of Callidus (trying to converse with the creature) who successfully Fast-Cast a Rego Terram spell to deflect the lance. When the weapon returned, Mandator promptly threw it again, only to be deflected once more. Seeing this, he then obliterated the creature with several multi-cast Incantations of Lightning! This was just as Callidus had successfully arranged a meeting with the Imps's mistress, Sainella, Negotiator of the Middle Echelons - but that's another story...

The lance has also been used successfully by Mandator against some Bock (He-Goat Mask Demons).

The powers in the lance are:

The item is trapped with Spectacle of Abject Terror (Creo Mentem 20) to prevent casual use, it can Understand Latin (score 3) and has a Lance Attack skill of +3, Lance Parry skill of +3 and Intimidate of +2.

The stats of the weapon are: 1st +11, Atk +5, Dam +17, Par +6.
Against Demons, it is deadly: 1st +18, Atk +11, Dam +39, Par +6.

In Spring 1230, it was discovered that this item has been disenchanted, and all its powers have been lost! The reason for this is unknown.

Larin's Staff

Presented as a gift by Larin (now Larinda the Elder at the Covenant of Dankmar) at an Interim Tribunal held at Malinbois many years ago. She apologised for the fact that it wasn't very powerful - she said she wasn't very good at making items. It was never known what effect was instilled.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Laurent's Healing Potions, Soothing Basalm and Aphrodisiacs

A small collection of potions made by Laurent in his spare time when not occupied with his Redcap duties.

The Leg of the Rejuvenated Sneak

This Lesser Enchanted item is a replacement left leg which animates to allow proper movement. However it is currently useless, since Simon (who it was made for) died on the very first expedition that he wore it! It was crafted by Callidus as work for the Covenant.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Mandator's Staff of Thunder

This destructive item is invested with the following Effects:

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Winter 1236. Reason unknown.

Marcus' Trowels (Numbers 1 and 2)

Quantity: 2. Marcus had unimaginatively named these Lesser Enchanted items "Trowel 1", "Trowel 2" and "Trowel 3". They were invested with Moulding Rock as Mud with Duration: Sun.

Left behind in the Dragon's cave near La Rochelle.

Mandator's Hammer

After Mandator's unfortunate transformation, his items were placed in the stores for general use. This small silver hammer is invested with Wind of Mundane Silence at 100th level. This Perdo Vim Effect is capable of dispelling Hermetic spells of upto 50th level - it has proved very useful in the past.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

The Orb

This large orb is a mysterious Faerie item originally belonging to the Fay from a forest near La Rochelle. Its exact effects are not known, but it seems to exert some kind of mental control over Madeleine, who was the first to touch it.

Stolen.

Plague Relief Potions

2 batches of a formula made by Laurent as covenant work in Summer 1238. The imbiber gets +2 on Stamina rolls vs the plague (the plague currently affecting the Val du Seraque, that is).

Used by the nearby villagers.

Plate Hauberk Armour

A magical set of Size +1 armour that used to be worn by Sir Severin. It has a Protection of +15 and a Load of 3.5.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Portal of Secrecy

A Lesser Enchanted item made by Imanitos Mendax as enforced work for the Covenant in Autumn 1230. It is a large 4' square slab of granite, about 6" thick, with an elaborate raised circular pattern on the top. It is placed across the vault in the caves as a sturdy trap-door. It is invested with a Rego Terram effect which allows it to be opened only when the two large ornate keys are placed in the central keyholes. It can be activated 6 times per day, and the keys are normally kept by the admonitor and one of the magi conditores.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Potions of Leap of Homecoming

Quantity: 6. These were made by Callidus' Automated Alchemical Engine.

Discovered to have lost their enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown. 4 of the 6 disenchanted batches were then subsequently lost in Winter 1236 with the wind elemental.

Pouch from King Valdine's Tomb

This item from the tomb is an ordinary pouch which has been tied up with golden twine. It was opened in the tomb and brought into itself a great wind that seemed to be trapped in a room. The pouch can be seen moving from time to time as if something inside is trying to get out.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Winter 1236. Reason unknown. The pouch was shredded, allowing some kind of wind elemental to be released (so we believe). This elemental caused much havoc, destroying other items and lab equipment.

The Seal of Malinbois

This is a protective amulet (the symbol of Malinbois on a chain) made by Salamandrus as Covenant work. It grants the wearer a constant Magic Resistance of +30. It is usually worn by the leader of the Turb on expeditions.

Lost when Severin was killed in Canet-Plage in Autumn 1234.

Seir's Waters

Quantity: 1 pint. The only remaining pint of this valuable magical water, salvaged recently from Serina's lab when she died. When used to open the enchantment on a new item, it allows twice the normal number of effects to be instilled, ie. 20 levels of effects per pawn of Vis used to open the enchantment.

Destroyed when some kind of wind elemental was released in the stores in Winter 1236.

Serina's Wand of Handy Extermination

One of the newest items, this is a Lesser Enchanted device made by Malevola Serini as Covenant work in Summer 1230. It is a wand invested with a 40th level Perdo Animal effect which rips the heart out of an animal at Near range. It kills those creatures which have hearts, assuming the Penetration of +57 gets through. It can be activated 12 times per day.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

Simon's Poisons

After his death, the items of the sneak Simon were placed in the stores. They are a collection of dangerous poisions (and antidotes), but they are not believed to be magical.

Apart from a few batches (see above), these were destroyed when the wind elemental was released in Winter 1236.

Spear from Prince Lyzian

Another Faerie item from the underwater Seelie Prince. It is a simple short spear made of wood and coral. It enhances the wielder's prowess with the spear and if one thinks about the spear glowing, it will give off a dull green light.

Taken from Bert when he was captured by the Devourer's mortal servants.

Specula

The Covenant has two Specula. One was crafted by Odette to allow her to travel from her laboratory way off in the mountains to the Council Chamber on Santare Hill. She can travel in person, or just send an image of herself. The other Speculum was a gift from the Covenant of Moonfield. It allows communication between the two Covenants.

Smashed during the earthquake of Spring 1241.

Stone Mace from Salleau

This huge weapon was found inside the Urn (see below). Pull to the Watery Grave (Rego Aquam 35) can be activated (by striking the sea) three times per day.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Winter 1236. Reason unknown.

The Sword of Malinbois

A Lesser Enchanted item made by Callidus as Covenant work. It is a large sword engraved with the symbol of Malinbois, and is now carried by Braeble. It has two 30th level Rego Terram Effects which provide a constant bonus to First Strike and Damage. Its stats are: 1st +10, Atk +3, Dam +16, Par +3.

Fell into the ravine in Home with Guy when he died, and has not been seen since.

The Sword of War

This is a very large cavalry sword that was carried by "War", and was retrieved when he was killed. It is possibly Infernal in origin.

Father Dietrich could not destroy it, and so he buried it on consecrated ground instead.

Trowel Number 3

Originally a matching set of 3. Marcus had unimaginatively named these Lesser Enchanted items "Trowel 1", "Trowel 2" and "Trowel 3". They were invested with Moulding Rock as Mud with Duration: Sun. In the past they had been used on the (multiple) occasions where repairs to the Covenant's infrastructure have been necessary. Now only one remains, after the other two had to be left behind in a Dragon's treasure pile (in the cave near La Rochelle).

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Spring 1234. Reason unknown.

The Wands of Fire

There used to be a matching set of two of these items; lesser wands also made by Pyran. They were invested with Pilum of Fire, activated 24 times per day with a Penetration of +53.

Both have now been traded away, one with a Salamander when crossing the Ring of Fire, the other more recently at the Covenant of Val-Negra.

The Wand of Fire and Ice

One of the items from King Valdine's Tomb. One end is red-tipped, from which can be cast a Ball of Abysmal Flame 3 times per day. The other end is blue-tipped, from which comes an opposite ice effect, also 3 times per day. The Penetration is +35.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Winter 1236. Reason unknown.

Yew Bow

This was the other item raided from the lab of Vorn in the Novgorod Tribunal when he was Marched. Imanitos claimed it, and for a few years it lay around his lab, unused and univestigated. Eventually, he decided it was of no use to him, and so he sold it to the Covenant for five Pawns of Vis. It is a large longbow, which seems to have an increased range, and a much greater penetration into materials corresponding to Animal or Herbam. A useful hunting bow.

Discovered to have lost its enchantment in Winter 1236. Reason unknown.
