The Covenants of the Loch Leglean Tribunal

A note on names: only those magi who have been met or seen by magi of Vidua Vasta are mentioned – in all there are about 80 magi of the Tribunal. Names take the form [nomen] [cognomen] [House] [origin] [parens]. Parens is only indicated if they are also known to Vidua Vasta. Thus Ian Morris of House Criamon is given as ‘Ian Morris Criamonis’, but Bricis Devontis of House Tremere is given as ‘Bricis Tremendi Devontis’, because ‘Devontis’ indicates the origin of this magus (=Devontia)

A brief description of the political alliances of Loch Leglean

The Pact of Crun Clach

Arbroath

Arbroath This covenant is highly unusual – it coexists with a monastery established by King David of Scotland, and was founded at the same time. The monks are a reformed Benedictine congregation called the Tironensian Order, devoted to using their skills in the service of God. The three magi seem to be untroubled by the aura of the monastery, and the monks are similarly unconcerned by having wizards in their midst (though they do not advertise the fact to outsiders). One of the magi has even taken the mantle of the Order; the other two serve as lay brothers. They belong to the Lowland consortium of covenants, and are just entering their Summer phase. (3 magi)
Ian Morris Criamonis
Solomon Verditii [Hachim made generous vis exchange, a reknown expert on Holy Relics]

Cnoc Nathair

Conc Nathair The name of this Highland Covenant means "Hill of the Serpent" in Gaelic. It is found at the north-east end of Glen Morison. It is the mystical Loch Ness that attracts the magi – for centuries there have been stories about a beast living in the loch, and the Magi at Cnoc Nathair all have their own theories to its nature. Their actual experience with the beast is limited to only a handful of occasions, however. Their introspection is typical of a Winter covenant. (5 magi)
Rhys ap Tregar Merinitae [Lucas makes neutral contact]
Nathan Merinitae of Deharbuath filius Rhys [took Oath in 1228]

Crun Clach

Crun Clach This powerful Autumn covenant is the leader of the Galldach (Lowland covenants). The praeco of the tribunal, Caitlin Suil Uaine scholae Merinitae, founded the covenant nearly 300 years ago, and is still its leader. The covenant is located within a faerie mound, and has faeries for covenfolk. Five magi reside here, three of which are unsurprisingly from House Merinita. The covenant is located in Kintyre. (6 magi)
Caitlin Suil Uaine Merinitae [Praeco]
Alexander the Lame Merinitae [insulted by Hygwald, representative to Grand Tribunal]
Radislav Criamonis am Polonach [debated the Enigma with Hachim]
Seamus an Cat Magus Ex Miscellaneorum [Hygwald and he have clashed]
Anna Gealach Merinitae filia Iain Mac Gabhan [Initiated in 1228]

Eilean Beg

Eilean Beg Northernmost of the Gaidheal (Highland covenants), this "Small Island" as the name means, is located off Cape Wrath, on the far northwestern point of the Scottish mainland. They are a covenant of wreckers, preying on ships that brave the rough seas between the Hebrides and the Orkneys. The magi are a mixture of Norse settlers and native picts, and, apart from Peter of Uist, are young magi, and thus a Spring covenant. (6 magi)
Peter Flambonis of Uist [hoplite of the Tribunal]
Chearlach Mac Caolin MacGruagach [met in 1221]
Torwald Torsteinson Verditii [tall Norwegian]
Conner Arbastian Flambonis [lutenist]
Caleb Bonisagi of Duncorrie [gambler]

Fergal's Rest

Fregal's Rest Sited on the isle of Staffa west of Mull, this Spring covenant was founded in 1227. They entered a formal pact of gratitude with Crun Clach, who helped them to establish, which enraged Clan MacGruagach, as one of their former apprentices is part of the covenant. (4 magi)
Roscaidh Mac Donncadh MacGruagach filius Aonghus Lamb Iarran [not on best terms with his master]
Aine Ban Gairdean Merinitae filia Alexander the Lame [had liason with Hygwald at Tribunal 1228]
Henry Ignavus Flambonis filius Daniel Tonatris [initiated 1228]
Stephan Jerbitonis of Elbe

Fire's Heart

Fire's Heart This Summer covenant began when a group of Flambeau in search for hedge wizards came to the island of Islay in 1169AD, and discovered there a group of Irish hedge-wizards called corrguinecht. Surprisingly the two groups of magi found many similarities, and instead of trying to destory each other, formed an alliance instead. The covenant is run by two magi, one from each tradition. The covenant has relocated to the Southern Uplands in Lanarkshire. They are part of the more civilised group of Lowland covenants, though have little to fear from raiders due to their isolation and fierce reputation. (7 magi)
Robert Gero Flambonis [hoplite, interviewed Lucas]
Daniel Tonatris Flambonis [helped March Damon le Mont]
Maequilla Flambonis [history of problems with Eric]
Domongart Magus Ex Miscellaneorum [attacked the Vidua Vasta contigent]
Thomas Vann Flambonis[formerly of Doire Druidhan]
Aaron Vann Flambonis [formerly of Doire Druidhan]
Curwen Mac Bride Magus Ex Miscellaneorum [died in fight against Damon le Mont]
Felix "The Lucky" Tain Magus Ex Miscellaneorum [hand removed by Eric Ribecus]

Horsingas

Horsingas The founders of Horsingas were a group of Saxon Magi who settled in Northumbria in 1073AD, fleeing the advancing army of William. Right from the time that it was established, Horsingas has meddled in mundane politics, trying (and failing) to put an Angle or Saxon in charge of the former Kingdom of Northumbria. They have been protected in the main from having the only quaesitor in the Tribunal as one of their leaders. There are seven magi, all devoted to breaking the power of Normans in Scotland and England. They do not form part of either of Loch Leglean’s ‘political parties’. The covenant is located in the Cheviot hills along the Tyne river, about 8 miles north of Hadrian’s Wall, and is entering the most powerful phase of its existence. (7 magi)

MacGruagach

MacGruagach A Summer covenant to be found on the slopes of Cairn Gorm, though the covenant is spread throughout Glen Glas. It is organised along the lines of a typical Highland clan. This covenant holds the Highlands - it is the leader of the Gaidheal (Highland covenants), mainly through intimidation whether political, magical or physical. At present, this Covenant has seven members. The effective head of the covenant is Calum MacLachlan, an ancient and monstrous gruagach; though the leader of the clan is a mundane. Apart from a member of House Bonisagus, this covenant consists of magi from House Ex Miscellanea, most from the Gruagach tradition. (8 magi)
Domnhull Beg Bonisagi [chosen as representative to Grand Tribunal]
Fearghus Mac Mungun MacGruagach [fought with Roscaidh at Tribunal 1228]
Aonghus Lamh Iarran MacGruagach
Rory Mac Nectan MacGruagach filius Nectan Dubh [initiated in 1228]

Mhor Rath

Mhor rath The three Magae of Mhor Rath carry on the sacred tradition of the personification of the Goddess. They believe that, as priestesses of the Great Mother, they have the right to determine sovreignity. They are the embodiment of an old Pictish organisation, but the tradition is said to predate even the Picts. This covenant consists of a squat tower on a lonely moor near Castle Elgin overlooking the Moray Firth. They are well connected with the Highland clans, and ever since MacBeth was King of Scotland, the throne has provided a handful of soldiers for their defence. The current King is not aware of why the tradition is upheld, or who dwells in the tower, in accordance with the Pact of Crun Clach. While they hold mundane power, their Hermetic influence is declining into Winter. (3 magi)
Cailleach Diorbhall, an ancient Gruagach

Rupres Vitri

Rupres Vitri This covenant, named "the Glass Cliff" can be found on the north shore of Loch Ryan in Galloway – the loch separates the covenant from the town of Stranraer. The covenant’s most notable feature is that the hill upon which it is built upon is made of smooth green glass, virtually impossible to scale. This unusual feature was a ‘gift’ from a faerie lord, which has made it virtually impossible for Rupes Vitri to have any contact with the outside world, and they have descended into Winter. (4 magi)
Vergis Tremendi [apparently insane]
Porphory Criamonis [a massively tall Terram magus who knows a lot about warlocks]
Thibaut Tytali [a young magus, now free from the covenant's prison]

Turmaris

Turmaris ‘Turris Maris’ is to be found on a small fog-shrouded island about 1 mile offshore of the Isle of Skye. The tower from which the covenant takes its name looks out to sea across the Straits of Minch to the Outer Hebrides. It nearly foundered less than 30 years after its establishment as all its magi gradually slipped into Twilight; but clung on due to the efforts of Marianna scholae Verditii, an apprentice who is now the leader. She has recently by five magi fresh out of apprenticeship, and the covenant has been deemed to have survived its Winter season to enter a new Spring. (5 magi)
Aeliophanes Jerbitonis [famed hunter of Stoorworms, part-owns the Golden Ship]
Tomas Bonisagi d’Arden [flighty and cowardly]
Eileen Merinitae [very ‘down-to-earth’ practical person]

Aonaranan

‘Hermit’ magi, who do not belong to any covenant. These are a peculiarly Loch Leglean phenomenon. They occasionally join up into temporary covenants. (about 20 magi)
Bricis Tremendi Devontis [formerly of Doire Druidhan]
Mazain Magus Mercurialis [long history with Hygwald]
Stratus Enor Guernici [formerly of Doire Druidhan]
Sgaine Cridhe Flambonis [interviewed Lucas]
Richard Caespuus Magus Mercurialis [Redcap serving Vidua Vasta]
Fearg Aile Magus Mercurialis [acting leader of the tribunal’s 5 redcaps]

Lost Covenants

Doire Druidhan

Doire Druidhan This covenant belonged originally to Magi from House Díedne, who founded it in long before the Schism War. About a decade ago, three Magi decided to start a covenant in the Lowlands of Scotland, and they chose to reinhabit the fortress of Druid’s Dale.Doire Druidhan was to be found in the Lammermuir hills of Lothian, near to Roxburgh. (9 magi)
The destruction of Doire Druidhan was investigated by the characters. See here for details

Stratus Enor Guernici filius Severine [now aonaran]

Lux ex Tenebris

Lux Ex Tenebris This covenant, ‘The Light out of Darkness’ was founded on the shores of Loch Lomond. It was the oldest covenant in the tribunal, part of the Seven Bastions of the North established by Pralix to protect Loch Leglean's magi. The magi that founded it never left, although all their apprentices did. As time went on, the magi disappeared – first Benvolius to Twilight, then Triandin to old age. Azenis left in 1227 when an earthquake struck, and destroyed the covenant buildings. (5 magi)
Azenis Tytali [now a guest at Vidua Vasta]
Severine Guernici [now in Normandy Tribunal]
Ceremin Jerbitonis [old age]
Triandin Jerbitonis [dead]
Benvolius Bonisagi [Final Twilight]
